Brazil_FortSantaCruz-200_small.jpg Brasilian postcards available from Judnick.comRIO HARBOR. "Passing Fort Santa Cruz, Entrance of Rio Harbor" unused Azo (triangles up, 1904 - 1918) real photo postcard, published by Brown & Shaffer in Newport News Virginia, album marks at the corners of both sides. Brazil tried to maintain neutrality at the start of World War I, but  torpedoing of its ships by German subs resulted in their joining the Allies in October 1917. On August 1 1918, after the Allies had squabbled over their usage, the Brazilian Navy departed from the port of Rio de Janeiro to work closely with US forces in the Atlantic -- rather than working with the Italians in the Mediterranean, or with the French along the African coast. We dare say this explains & dates the postcard precisely, because US ships would have been in attendance. History in your hands! $25.00 m(b)bw
