CORONIA in GAILLARD CUT, Panama Canal" being guided by a tugboat on a partly cloudy day; unused chrome postcard from Dexter Press, numbered 56570 near stamp box. The Coronia was initially a survey vessel, but served as the patrol vessel USS Andradite (PYc-11) during World War II. Necessarily pre-1956 when she was destroyed by fire, the ship is definitely not common on postcard. $4.00 cs(m)

This is early work showing 2 rail-based cranes at different levels using the bucket-ladder technology that was also used on the dredges. $6.50 c

Haskell (Signal Platoon, Atl. Sec., US Signal Corps), bottom corner crease, a few tiny speckles of cancel ink on front. The fort, part of the Regular Army's First Coastal Artillery, guarded the Atlantic terminus of the Panama Canal. The only card of any kind we have ever seen from this fort in anyone's stock. Sugar (4th Coastal Artillery, US Army), 2 pinholes, 3 corners creased (one multiply), other edge wear is minor. The fort guarded the southern end of the Panama Canal, and the island is now controlled by Panama. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 cgmp

   
"KZ5CU" shortwave (7 Mc.) Fort Clayton QSL card, mailed there JAN 23 1963 by operator Lt. Col. Joe S. Churan, small upper corner crease, 2 tiny bottom corner crease, crisp hand cancel on 4-c ship stamp (2 perfs pulled), very light toning both sides. Fort Clayton was a US Army base that closed in 1999. $3.00 c-c

"Panama Canal, a Mecca for Tourists" these from the steamer Laurentic going to the area where slides hindered construction at the Culebra Cut, on a sunny day warranting the deployment of many umbrellas, as the back explains; unused postcard made in the USA, back toned from album contact also has an area of paste residue. The Laurentic was a White Star Line ship which later sunk off Lough Swilly Ireland on January 25 1917 with 354 casualties. $6.50 cs(o)s(w)

S. 7 on the electric street railway system which went between Panama City in the Republic and La Boca in the Canal Zone. Henry T. Cook of New York was granted a license by the US War Department to build the line which touched Sebanus, the Hotel Tivoli & the Ancon hospital grounds. Hard to find; when we searched the Internet we found no other examples of this post card offered. $25.00 cu
