The photographer is J. W. Krieg, whose studio there was from 1895 - 1902. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 bcgpo
Clear AU 10 1933 Columbus Ohio machine cancel ties damaged-in-opening 3¢ Washington stamp franking #10 envelope conveying 4 full-page letter on 2 illustrated letterheads from M. Mae Palmer to her husband A. T. Palmer (proprietors of the Maeland Stock Farm in Dublin Ohio) as he travelled with the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus, next-day arrival marked by light violet double-ring Martinsburg WV hand cancel on back. These people trained and boarded horses & harnesses suitable for heavy circus work. Aside from personal remarks, the lady recounts in detail a fascinating & amusing bargaining session where a prospective customer tried to buy or rent "the tallyho" and harness for four. Their business did not last long, evidently succumbing during the Depression. We found no mention of their business at all when we searched the Internet. $30.00 o-ch NEW / NUEVO / NOV

"Main Street Russia O. Thomas" in Shelby County Ohio, including an auto, signs at the left (Sun Brother's World's Progressive Shows Monday Sept., honest scrap, ...); unused sepia-tone Cyko real photo post card, minor corner rounding, oxidation consistent with age. Sun Brother's was a 3-ring circus with elephants having active routes for daily shows 1911-1913 which helps to date this image. This type of advertising in small towns was a common way to publicize one-day circus shows in nearby communities, but the one-day nature of the corresponding events meant that most were soon plastered over with other notices. So its is a treat to actually see such a poster on a real photo postcard. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged 300-dpi scan (publication quality) in .jpg format for $3.75. o(r)cm
Mainzer comic cat 4708, Turkish printing (!), art showing fanciful dog & cat balancing act in a carnival setting, both sides fresh & appealing, exceptionally colorful postcard, copyrighted. Seldom seen. $5.00 cm
"MID-AIR MARVEL -- The electrifying Elvin Bale / performs fantastic feats on the swinging trapeze / in the Red Unit of RINGLING BROS. AND / BARNUM & BAILEY CIRCUS" with an action shot looking upward at him swinging by his feet, unused postcard dating to 1973. $3.00 c
"MOTORCYCLE DAREDEVILTRY -- The Vickels / defy gravity as they perform breathtaking stunts / on the stratocycle precariously perched on a wire / high above the arena at The Greatest Show on Earth, unused post card, 1973 copyright. "Mr. Arthur West and his Kindergarden Class / at Gay's Lion Farm / El Monte, Calif." with 7 young lions perched on stairs & a stool, unused DOPS real photo postcard, good edges, necessarily 1942 or earlier. Note the tilted composition, which is telling: the photographer was inside the enclosure & understandably nervous; he took the shot quickly & made a hasty retreat! In the circus, the feat shown was duplicated with 7 full-grown lions. Rare. When we searched the Internet, no one was offering it & no one was even bragging about having sold it. All we could find were people exhibiting it as one of their prized possessions. $25.00 cc(e)agp
"No. 3-29 / CIRCUS WORLD MUSEUM / Baraboo, Wisconsin" showing lithographed posters from one of their displays (including prominently 'GARGANTUA ... the largest gorilla ever exhibited'), unused post card with good edges. $3.00 cpmwa
/ 'Wallendas' / Feet-to-Shoulders / on chair / Ringling Circus 1934" Kodak
real photo postcard with caption taken from writing on back, a couple dealer
erasure marks on back. In those early days there were only 4 Wallendas. They
were the only ones that could perform these dangerous feats, and they were
indeed with Ringling in 1934. So the captioning on back checks out. Now
consider the photography for a moment: no-blur action photo of a strongly
backlit subject. Quite simply the best circus postcard we have ever seen.
Probably one of a kind. We could find nothing like it on the internet.
"PROFESSOR GEORGE J. KELLER'S JUNGLE KILLERS / George J. Keller, a former college professor turned wild- / animal trainer, demonstrates for the first time the unarmed / subjugation of a group of African lions, tigers,..." unused chrome post card from Disneyland at Anaheim California, copyright 1955 (opening day was July 17 1955 so they can't get much earlier!), several small surface indentations most easily seen from the back, corner & edge wear, small corner crease, as is. $10.00 ccd
"RB-3 PERFORMING ELEPHANT AT RINGLING BROS. / WINTER QUARTERS, SARASOTA, FLA." showing an elephant holding a man horizontally in its mouth while walking, linen postcard from Hartman Litho Sales Co., mailed 1953, creasing at one corner & wear at the others. Sold but still available for scholarly study & research as a full-size & enhanced 72-dpi scan in .jpg or .tif format. $1.50 cef!
"Ready for Circus Parade" showing two clowns with dressed dog in top hat next to a Barnum & Bailey Show truck, well done home-made (and, hence, unique) post card mailed 1963 from Pennsylvania. $2.50 c
"RENOWNED RINGMASTER -- The voice of / Ringmaster Harold Ronk entertains and informs / ... / Greatest Show on Earth" shown close-up with microphone in hand, unused circa-1973 postcard. Known for singing 'Welcome to the Circus' in a stentorian voice to millions, he passed in 2006. $3.00 cgm NEW / NUEVO / NOV
