FRENCH. "THE / FRENCH BROS. / BAUER CO. // CREAM TOP MILK / CERTIFIED & INSPECTED MILK" signage on a small delivery truck, approximately 2.5" x 4.5" photo with 4 spots of album paste on back. Pencil annotation on back suggests Cincinnati Ohio as the location -- which we do not doubt. The very successful French Brothers had dairy operations throughout the Miami Valley, Warren & adjacent counties in Ohio, and Kentucky & Indiana locations near Cincinnati. Their Valley View farm furnished "inspected milk," -- i.e., milk which came under frequent scrutiny of a milk commission that had adopted the rules of the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine. $15.00 fo(c)ga

Regards, Arild Frengen, Capt." continental size Kodak photograph annotated by her captain on the back. This Norwegian chemical tanker has since been scrapped in Denmark by the Fornaes Shiprecycling Company. The dark area at the left & center shows a plaque mounted on a jagged rock, fixing the place precisely in Norwegian: 'Her fant kampen sted mellom deN britiske destroyer cossack og det tyske hjelpeskip den 16 febr. 1940' -- referring to what is now known as the Altmark incident in which a British destroyer boarded a German ship carrying many British prisoners who were liberated in neutral Norwegian waters. Several interesting points of international law were raised by the incident. All edges are fine; the left edge looks ragged because the rock in the foreground is ragged, not the edge. Rare. $12.50 ns(o)lhg
