FLYER, CAIRO, ILL." with baggage cart, buggy & passengers in the foreground,
circa 1910 postcard published by S. H. Dress, trivial edge wear. The Mobile & Ohio Railroad connected by
bridge (first use 1889) to the Illinois Central Railroad depot shown here at
Cairo. Sold but front

CAIRO (ALEXANDER COUNTY). "The Halliday House, Cairo, Ill." looking in towards the hotel & its boathouse from the water, including part of the bow-boat MAMIE BARRETT seen at the left; postcard mailed Sept 24 1909 (partial CAIRO, ILL. TRANS. CLERK hand cancel), a little cancel ink in the sky, minor wear at the bottom corners. The ship is not to be confused with the Mamie Barrett built in 1913, nor the Mamie S. Barrett which came even later. Instead, this is the former Charlotte Boeckeler, which became the J. H. Freind, a bow-boat for rafting logs that got this name when it sold to the Barrett Line. The best collection of US ships we ever saw (and purchased!) had no image of that ship--whole or partial. $15.00 i(c)s(r)s(b)
CALUMET HARBOR. "1633 Boat Landing, Calumet Harbor." in Illinois, including people & an old auto nearby the small steamer Thistle; postcard published by E. A. Bishop, mailed at Oshkosh Wisconsin in July 1911 by a lady commenting on the 'dandy weather'. We are told that the Thistle, damaged by storms & ice, was condemned at Green Bay in 1915. CARLYLE, ILLINOIS (CLINTON COUNTY). "The old swinging bridge / across the Kaskalkia(sic River / at Carlysle(sic), Ill..." home-made (and, hence, unique) postcard mailed 1957 at Huey Illinois, a little wear at one upper corner.
