"152 / Interior of Cathedral of St. John the Divine, N. Y." facing the altar of what is said to be the largest church in the US, several flags displayed on both sides; sepia-tone real photo post card in vertical format, mailed at New York City in 1912 to Reverend Purdy Lapham Van Wicklen in Covington Ohio by someone who had just heard 'a first class sermon here Sunday'. One upper corner creased twice & nicked, tiny spot of toning mostly in the lower front border. This Episcopal church in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of the Upper West Side has undergone construction for over a century, most recently because of a 5-alarm fire there in 2001. "EHRE SEI GOTT IN DER HOEHE" uncaptioned (so we use the German words from the central decorative arch meaning 'Glory be to God in the Highest' from a cantata by Bach) Artura real photo postcard showing a large organ, altar & Christmas decorations; evenly-divided back is addressed by Hulda to Mr. Edwin L. Freeze in New Berlin Ohio. If this interior is in New Berlin, then this is likely the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on West Maple Street in its second or third year (1908-1910) at its then-new location. Church, / Swampscott, Mass. / Showing an Estey Reed Organ, / Style G 61 ..." advertising postcard of the Estey Organ Company in Boston, mailed at the Essex Street Station (circa 1910, no dial in cancel!) to Reverend P. L Van Wicklen in Scituate Massachusetts, upper corners creased (one twice), other edge wear is minor, light toning on back. When this company completed an installation it would ask permission to make a postcard of it and send it to their current list of prospects, probably for a donation. "LIEU DE LA CONVERSION DE S. PAUL / (BAB-CHARKI - - SAKHRA)" at Bab Sharqi or the Eastern Gate of Damascus. Showing the interior of the church now in Syria where Saint Paul, travelling on the road to Damascus, was said to see & be blinded temporarily by an appearance of Christ. The cure of that blindness completed his conversion from Judaism to Christianity; thereafter, he wrote several epistles now included in the New Testament. Unused real photo postcard with high contrast, undisclosed publisher. Rare: when searching the Internet we could only find one view of the place & that was its exterior. (What its interior or exteriors look like after more recent conflicts we simply do not know.) $20.00 rsi
