Ohio (arrival mark on the 16th). The material shown here in square brackets [ ] was
filled in by hand. The Congregation Kal A Kodesh Beneh Israel (Holy
Congregation of Children of Israel) was founded in 1824 in Ohio by a
majority of the Israelites in the Cincinnati area, and so became a frontier
outpost of Judaism. Soon its name changed to Congregation Kahl aKodish Bene
Israel, which name endures today, as does its abbreviation. Not much early

completed curb nearby. [The latter translates from German as 'Entwickler /
Baumeister Bochner' or 'Developer / Master Builder Bochner'.] The Bochners
were one of the first documented Jews in Bukovina, and Czernowitz is the
major city of Bukovina. Buchbinder is the name of a Jewish banker in
Czernowitz at that time. And thus this postcard depicts the Jewish bank
building which was completed on the Ringstrasse there in 1899. Black & white

"KRAKAUER BROS. / NEW YORK" 3 circa 1890 advertising cards
depicting grown people on an early form of tricycle, back adverting lists
advantages of their pianos, available from F. E. Everett in Potsdam New York
(left & right) & Miller Organ Company in Lebanon Pennsylvania (center). The
earliest of them is at the right when only 10,800 were in use; the other two
came later when there were 11,000 in use. More precisely, the Krakauer
Building was located on 136th & 137th Streets in the Bronx, bespeaking the
success of Jewish immigrant Simon Krakauer & other family members, whose
handmade instruments were long known for their high quality. Backs are
browned lightly from album contact & each has a few small thins on the back
from album removal. All three are hard-to-find.

incandescent light bulb business owned by Johann Kremenezky, founder of the
Jewish National Fund and Herzl's financier; slightly taller than a

side carries a handwritten message (spellings as found): 'Dear Sir -
Enclosed I'm sending yoy the proposal that you have sended me, hopping that
you will give me your agency to the Portuguese Colonys.' Yona Krementzky,
another spelling of his name, headed the JNF-KKL. Among other things, he
initiated the Golden Book, and the publication of JNF stamps. Tying
all it together, and among his many honors, he was nominated as one of the Dignitory Citizens of Vienna.
This document is not signed but it is obviously an attempt to further his
