GARDEN CITY, GULF & NORTHERN RAILROAD. "Construction work on the G. C. G. & N. R. R.  A. J. Canaday, Contractor" unused sepia-tone Azo (triangles up) real photo postcard, long corner crease & 2 long internal creases from the top edge. This single-track short line (37+ miles) rail road was entirely in Kansas, connecting Scott City to Garden City. Construction began in 1907 & was completed in early 1910. Thus we can date the divided-back postcard within late-1907 to early-1910. That is a Reeves tractor & a five-man crew doing the work. The short Wikipedia article on this rail road expresses uncertainty as to the claim of construction by the Kansas Construction & Irrigation Company. Here is photographic proof about one who actually did the work, or at least part of the work, possibly as a subcontractor to them! Belongs in a museum! $100.00 r(g)k(g)g NEW / NEU / NOUVEAU

HERINGTON / HERRINGTON (DICKINSON COUNTY & MORRIS COUNTY). "Der most lonesomeness place on / der map / HERRINGTON / Gee! how I vas wishin' you vas back" meaning what is now Herington Kansas (their founder dropped the second R in his name), postcard mailed JUN 30 1913 (clear K. C. & CALDWELL TR24 RPO hand cancel, a segment of railroad entirely within Kansas & on which Herington was a station), 2 tiny corner creases, light toning on front. The report of the General Superintendent or US Railway Mail Service spells the town name with one R as early as 1905, so apparently it required a considerable length of time for the name change to take hold universally. $9.00 k(h)d
