"280. - Afrique Occidentale / Montanes du Macina / Sépultures de Habibès à l'intérieur les plus / retirés et les plus inaccessibles de la / falaise." showing a native boy & several skulls at the entrance to cliff caves that once served as burial places for Tellern hunter-gathers & Dogons who conquered them. Then in French Soudan, now in Mali; surely one of the most inaccessible places on earth. The village of Yendouma is probably nearby at the base of the cliffs. The terminology 'Montanes du Macina' is not in modern usage & the burial of Habibès tribe members as stated in the caption is problematic at best. Despite these errors, publisher Fortier in Dakar Sénégal counted this amongst his best views, adding advertising to the back as follows: 'POST CARDS / Great choice of wiews(sic) and / natives of whole / West Africa. / COLLECTION FORTIER / on sale at FORTIER / CLOSE TO POST-OFFICE'. Because of the errors we mention, it is not likely that many were distributed like this. One of the best African postcards we have ever seen, and worthy of the finest collections of French West Africa. There is a faint small corner crease that is hard to detect from the front because it blends in with the rocks. Sold but front side still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 771% of original print area) & enhanced 200-dpi scan in .jpg format. $2.00 fmmcc

Several can be seen at special celebrations, including funerals, dancing & performing magic tricks, dispensing flattery & good wishes for donations. Egoungoun is also seen spelled egungun & egoun goun. Rare card on a rare subject: nothing like it, offered or displayed, when we searched the Internet. $10.00 bm

Now a national park located entirely within the Federal District of México. Numbered 6 in a very hard-to-find series which provoked a lot of unfounded speculation -- and, we suppose, its early withdrawal from circulation. $7.00 m(d)cm
"Cavalry Killed at Agua Prieta / by Villa's Guns." including their dead horses, looking towards the USA; sepia-tone real photo postcard mailed 1918 at Nogales Arizona, oxidation consistent with age, 2 stress marks in the sky at the upper right front. "Costume della Misericordia Firenze" showing a funeral procession with open coffin, writing on front dates to 1899, This burial confraternity survives to this day, carrying out the burial of the dead & friendless as an act of charity. Our date comes from the only other example we have ever seen which was postmarked 1915; also, starting in 1916 we are told the French wore blue trousers. This is a World War I propaganda card, with the mustachioed head being that of Kaiser Wilhelm II Emperor of Germany & the bayoneted head being his son, the Crown Prince Wilhelm.
