Postcard also quotes reviews in the Mirror, Jour.-Amer. & Life Magazine on back. Given out by ushers at the theater, as explained in the stamp box. See also our postcard listing of the ships of Streckfus Steamers, Incorporated who operated on the Mississippi River. They hired many important black jazz musicians to entertain their passengers, & were among the first to hire integrated bands on riverboats there. The acceptance of those bands played a part in facilitating the northward migration of blacks in the US.

SAN FRANCISCO" the Chronicle Building bedecked with flags in the background, the world-famous operatic singer simultaneously presenting that city with a gift & a pointed snub to Oscar Hammerstein (who wanted her singing in New York City). From the looks of it, 100,000 was a gross undercount. May people remembered that day. Written on the back: 'John Blumenstiel and I are in this crowd.'
