"Admiralspalast. / Ellen Dallerup / in dem Eisballett 'Flirt in St. Moritz." / 69 / PHOT. WILLINGER BERLIN" exquisitely hand-tinted real photo postcard with numerous paste beads applied, unused, good edges, slight oxidation near the front corners consistent with age. The Admiralspalast is an unusual theater in Berlin, built 1911, which included a large skating rink on which ice ballets & shows were performed. When not in use, the ice rink could be covered over with a wooden floor for dancing. "BECKMESSER HANS SACHS VEIT PROGNER / NÜRNBERGER MEISTERSINGER" showing a group of 3 busts in a striking image, number 5031 from Herman Martin, unused Postkarte, slight yellowing of the paper with age, minor wear at 2 corners. Hans Sachs was a 16th century Bavarian mastersinger & songwriter, about whom (among others) Richard Wagner composed a long opera. Beckmesser was a character in the opera who many believe was intended to be a Jewish stereotype. $5.00 bnjm

"FREDERIC SHAILER EVANS / Pianist, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music" postcard mailed MAY 11 1912 at Cincinnati to Miss Etna McAtee in Burlington Kentucky, small crease at the stamp corner & an upper corner crease that is hard to notice at first. Sender student wrote 'This is my piano teachers picture.' The January 31 1915 Cincinnati Enquirer mentioned that he would give 3 successive Sunday afternoon teas. Not in the Bowden collection, and the only instructor postcard for the Conservatory that we have ever seen anywhere! $15.00 o(c)mgn NEW / NEU / NOVO
"Geo. M. Schilling / THE WORLD'S CHAMPION LONG / DISTANCE WALKER / NOW PULLING HIS AIRSHIP FOR 20,000 / MILES FOR A WAGER IN 3 YEARS. STARTED FROM LONDON FEB. 18th 1908." with signage that is redundant with the caption, unused postcard, light toning, trivial corner wear. Hard-to-find--image or explanation. Apparently he pulled this most unusual contraption along on wheels as a mobile home & shelter from the elements, as part of his wager. An unusual way to make a living when postcards could be sent with a halfpenny stamp. "Major von Parseval / mit seinem lenkbaren Luftschiff in Zürich." with an inset showing the pioneering aviator, unused sepia-tone real photo postcard prominently showing the pioneering dirigible balloon from the side, P/RA in the stamp box, oxidation mostly near the bottom front border, good edges. Flights to Zurich were attempted (& sometimes accomplished) to partially satisfy military specifications. The Major was a retired German officer and his designs competed against those of Major Von Gross & Count Zeppelin. This airship wrecked and fell into Lake Plau in April 1910. "NX62E / Billy Parker" flying a 1912 Model Curtis Pusher, with an ad on back for Phillips 66 aviation gasoline, unused postcard, light toning near the stamp box & the left front border, otherwise fairly fresh. Mr. Parker was long-time manager of Aviation Sales at Phillips Petroleum Company from 1927 on. The "pusher" shown was his own successful design which first conquered the altitudes of his native Colorado, and later was demonstrated for Phillips publicity purposes. $9.50 a(p)onm

"The Commander / With the Two Waifs // Where the 'Other Half' Lives" showing Commander Evangeline Booth (her name was not necessary, everyone called her 'The Commander') standing with 2 poor children, inset on a view of wash overhanging a slum street in America; black & white postcard solicitation for the Salvation Army Home Service Fund, unmailed, 2 small corner creases, minor corner wear, lightly toned back. Circa 1919, just after her program of sending personnel directly to the American Expeditionary Force in the front lines in France provided the publicity she needed to raise millions instead of tens of thousands of dollars. $15.00 sng
"The tanks on Mr. Grahame White's aeroplane / being filled with 'SHELL' MOTOR SPIRIT." showing the English aviation pioneer who was the first to make a night flight, circa-1913 advertising postcard, tiny bottom corner crease, a few small spots of toning in the back address area, good edges. Slightly taller than a regular-size postcard, we price it as a reproduction: the internal crease on the original, from which it is based, is simply not present here.
