H. / July 31 - Aug. 1-2-3 1910" cartoon art has man on high-wheeler bicycle making a journey of some 400 miles; post card mailed there May 24 1910, album toning, minor corner wear. The red part of the front design is a sticker that has been neatly applied. Very hard to find -- offered or displayed.       WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE (FAYETTE COUNTY). Uncaptioned sepia-tone Azo (triangles up) real photo postcard showing a motorcycle club before 'Richardson's Hand Laundry' (330 Main Street) & the garage next door (324 Main Street, a corner of East). Garage signage includes: '... / GARAGE / AUTO REPAIR / ...', 'FOR BUSINESS OR PLEASURE / THE SIL... / INDIAN MOTORCYCLES / SINGLE OR TWIN CYLINDER / SURPASSING QUALITY - POWER - RELIABILITY' & 'DRIVE SLOW' (admonishing those entering). The only mention we could find of the laundry was in the 1913 Washington Court House and Fayette County Directory, which helps to locate & date the card; it further disclosed it was owned by Frank C. Richardson. A pennant hanging down from the motorbike at the extreme left partially reads 'WASHINGTON...' and 'C. H.' undoubtedly followed. 'SIL...' probably completes as 'SILVER', making it  an old sign because the early branding of Indians was 'Silver King' & 'Silver Queen'. Several curved internal creases from the edges, some oxidation consistent with age & toned back. $85.00 $72.50 o(w)m SALE PRICE: SAVE $12.50 (15% OFF)

C13223), made in Germany circa 1908, light toning both sides, minor corner wear & rounding. This old spring gave rise to Zanesville's early name of Springfield Township; at that time the road was called Lovers' Lane. In our experience, most views of this location are scenic, rather than showing the spring in actual use. Providing an additional distinction from most children postcards, these youngsters are performing a chore suitable for their age, rather than just standing around looking cute. $8.50 o(z)c

Uncaptioned Azo (triangles up) real photo postcard showing (among other things) the American Theatre at the left & The Brookover Shoe Company on the right -- all fixing the exact location as Main Street, near Sixth, looking east. The shoe company is mentioned as early as in the 1909 Boot & Shoe Recorder; it prospered until at least 1919 (when we find a mention in the Shoe & Leather Reporter Annual). Glossy finish, oxidation consistent with age, 5-letter indent from heavy-handed writing when the card was underneath something else (near bottom of telephone pole at left, hard to notice at first). Possibly unique: no printed caption, no photographer credit, no publisher information.
