Railroad_DFMcArthur-300_small.jpg railroad photo available from Judnick.comD. F. MCARTHUR RAILWAYS. Uncaptioned real photo postcard picturing the engine, tender, construction workers, & 2 small portable boilers (that would be useful for pile-driving into loose soil, e.g.) of D. F. McArthur Railways on or about October 19, 1911 (when the sender docketed his message & where the tracks probably ended as shown). Sent with a 1-c Canadian stamp (there was no post office there, so they smudge cancelled the stamp with oily fingerprints) to Elmer Frye in Lyons Indiana by his friend Uria. This company railroad operated as subcontractor to the brother's J. D. McArthur Company for clearing, leveling the ground & building roadbeds for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway through Alberta. Sender anticipated the job would be finished by April 1912, but as we understand it the main lines for the GTPR (and Canadian Northern Railways for that matter) were built in Yellowhead Pass into 1913, so he may have been a bit too optimistic. The flat terrain seen here is necessarily in Alberta, not British Columbia which lay distant & ahead at that time. $150.00 ar(g)r(m)
