Northern Pacific -- which exclusively sailed  the Astoria Oregon to San Francisco coastal route of  the Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway -- returning from a stay near the pictured scenery. P.' in the caption stands for 'Southern Pacific'. This coastal ship sailed regularly from New York City; it collided & sank another ship off the coast of New Jersey while on just such a route. We believe this postcard is rare. The best postcard collection we ever saw of US ships on postcard did not have her on any postcard in its inventory.
