SS Choloma. "S. S. CHOLOMA, UNITED FRUIT CO." with a side view looking towards shore, a tug alongside mid-ship; unused Kodak sepia-tone real photo postcard, small corner bend not into the image, contrast somewhat low. Formerly the Phoebe Knot, it sailed for its new company from 1945 - 1955 (when it was renamed Aguascalientes). Although the ship is distant, some detail can be had under magnification. Engineering Department Number 9; black & white post card with undivided back mailed 1906 at St. Louis, back toned from album contact especially at the corners, front cancel ink smear in sky & neat Warren Ohio auxiliary mark mostly in the water. Snag boats removed hazards to navigation -- such as sunken logs - with a split bow, so the could get over it and lift the snag with an A-frame crane. These features make the postcard exceptionally interesting. But there is more: the Wright's Captain Bixby taught Mark Twain much of what he knew about the Mississippi. $17.50 m(s)s(u)s(r)a

Uncaptioned Kodak real photo postcard showing a side view of the ship with the name plainly visible, writing on back, low-contrast  / grayish, couple small light spots of toning on back. Built by George A. Fuller & Company of Wilmington North Carolina for the US Shipping Board. USS West Shore / Westshore (1918). Uncaptioned Kodak real photo postcard showing a side view of the ship without its pattern camouflage (therefore after its post World War I decommissioning in March 1919) with its name clear, several tiny spots of toning on face, minor wear at one upper corner, back fairly fresh. During World War I the ship served the Navy as a temporary auxiliary ship, and was then returned to the US Shipping Board.
