"1910
/ House moving from Lamro / to Winner" in Tripp County South Dakota, showing
house-moving equipment hitched up to the Pioneer Saloon with its anxious
owners alongside in automobiles, travelling as indicated by the handwritten
caption; unused real photo post card, a few very small spots of light toning
on back, trivial corner & edge wear. When the railroad connected to Winner,
many residents of Lamro gave up their aspirations of being the Tripp County
seat. Thirty Lamro structures were then moved across the plains in 1910,
taking up new positions grouped together at one end of Winner. The Pioneer
Saloon (listed in the 1908 Lamro directory) shown here, per visible signage,
was one of those thirty. In 1910 the building became known as the Jay Weaver
Saloon, named after the man who owned it during the move shown (who is
probably in the picture); in 1911, it became the Guthrie Pool Hall; and in
1912-13, it became the Haisch & Company Meat Market. Obviously
one-of-a-kind: no printed captions, no photographer attribution, no publisher
attribution. Ultra rare. Belongs in a museum. Sold but front

"Automobile Railway, Eldorado Springs, Colo., C. &
So. R. R." miscaptioned because each of the 3 cars on this segmented
miniature railway train is distinctly labeled 'ELDORADO SPRINGS / RAILWAY

Southern referred to in the caption ran from 1898 to 1908; the Eldorado
Springs Railway was incorporated in 1909 with the intention of servicing an
amusement park with electrified passenger service. Thus, this rare postcard
documents precisely the 1908 / 1909 transition. It is unused, faint album
marks at the front corners; discoloration at the bottom 2 corners
attributable to the original chromo-lithographic process itself. We have
seen reproductions of this postcard offered at over $300.00; but why not own
the real thing, available from us, for only $60.00! r(e)c(e)u

"Coates & McDonald / AERO / Unicycle Co. / 617 Liggett
Building / St. Louis, Mo., U. S. A." postcard mailed FEB 8 1912 from St. Louis
to Mr. & Mrs Lewis Schwarz in Detroit Michigan. Sender wrote in part: 'We are
busy this wk. at Coleseum(sic) with this affair on other side. How would you
like to ride this going at the rate of a mile a minute...'. According to the
October 5 1911 Motor Age, the St. Louis Manufacturers' and Dealers' Association
announced that it would remain inactive during 1912. So the exhibition referred
to was held by the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association, formed chiefly to
the purpose of holding the February 1912 show coincidentally with the Veiled
Prophet Festival, availing itself of the numerous out-of-town visitors. The
motorized unicycle idea is obviously hair-brained & dangerous: the driver's view
is at all times obstructed and at speeds approaching 60 miles an hour it
becomes an undertaking (and we choose that word carefully) only for those having
a death wish. Evidently that is what most of the recipients of this advertising
postcard believed, tossing it in the trash to give it the repose it deserved. To
the best of our knowledge this is the only surviving example. A search of the
Internet revealed no other offers, no previous recorded offers, and no
exhibitions whatsoever. Sold but

real photo postcard with good focus & contrast from Myer & Co.

excess electrical generating facilities

businesses with evening hours in a wide area. Note their specialized vehicle to ride the rails
of the electrified trolleys which provided interurban service regionally;
this was needed because the condition of the electrical lines over the rails
was of paramount importance to them.
