AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL AIRWAYS. Unused regular size postcard
showing its Douglas DC-4-1009 Skymaster flying over Melbourne Victoria, pertinent
information under the caption, paper lightly browning with age, obviously airline issued
(logo at bottom front center), trivial corner wear. On 26 June 1950 this plane crashed
shortly after taking off from Guildford Airport in Western Australia. Only one passenger
survived; the other 28 souls aboard perished. Postcard sold. Still available for scholarly study & research as an enlarged (about 400% of original print area) & enhanced 144-dpi scan in

BELGRAVE. "THE ROSE SERIES, P. 325 A BEAUTIFUL BEND IN THE ROAD, BELGRAVE, VICTORIA" unused sepia-tone real photo postcard with glossy finish, back & front corners with light toning from corner mounts, 2 back corners with tiny album adherences, good edges. $4.50 v

BENDIGO. Letter card from Bendigo 2 September 1902 bearing a stunning example of the 4 numeral cancel, also a Putney S. W. CDS of 6 October 7:45 AM & 4 PM, Lifton 6:15 AM October 7th CDS very fine, and one indistinct marking & a brownish adherence with adjacent thin (probably from removal of a postal notice) on the reverse. Partial contents from letter reflects on postal service: 'I expect my new dress and hat by this weeks' mail & am intensely curious to see what the duty and bother will be before they are delivered to me! The Customs Dept. is being administered in the most vexatious spirit by the federal Minister M. Kinston. His reign is said to be a reign of terror for the merchants & almost paralyses trade.' Stamps are SG(357) or (357a), depending on shade, and (363)--both catalogued at 900% premium when on cover. $9.00 v-v NEW / NOV / BAGO
BENDIGO. "Quartz Crushing Battery, City of Bendigo, Victoria" black & white with minor corner wear & rounding, back printing reads "Victoria Welcomes the American Fleet", unused, unusual subject matter. The Fleet referred to the the Great White Fleet which visited in 1908. The crushing operation facilitated the recovery of gold from the nearby mines.
